The pre- and post-operative procedure
The varicose vein surgical procedure depends on the surgeon selected.
In my opinion it is important to:
- spend time in consultation to have everything properly explained,
- locate the varicose veins before the operation during the Doppler-ultrasound scan,
- undergo the operation using a tumescent local anesthesia enabling the patient to leave the same day,
- avoid hematomas and reduce pain and discomfort.
Such a procedure will yield optimum results in order to avoid recurrence of varicose veins.
The consultation with Doctor LASRY is crucial.
The decision to operate is based on a clinical check-up, the opinion of the angiologist, the results of the Doppler ultrasound scan and discussions between the patient and his surgeon.
You will always be given certain documentation:
- a pre-operative meeting with the anesthetist is scheduled to ensure compliance with the current data on the precautionary principle,
- the most accurate possible information on the possible disadvantages and risks involved in varicose vein surgery (informed consent),
- a Doppler-ultrasound scan for location purposes the day before the operation either with your angiologist or at the clinic. This enables the location of all the varicose veins that are to be treated to be drawn on using a marker pen, showing their path, both visible and hidden as well as any anomalies. This means the surgeon will be sure:
- not to miss anything,
- to detect any unusual physical features,
- to be accurate with his incisions and therefore highly cosmetic.
- Fees will always be the subject of a detailed quote provided at the first consultation.
Varicose vein surgery will thus be performed:
- in over 90% of cases without hospitalization (ambulatory),
- using a mini-invasive protocol (see above),
- in accordance with – and this is a major point – the traditional guidelines for cosmetic surgery (mini-incisions, no sutures on the skin), the most a-traumatic surgery possible (only steristrips® used over mini-incisions), in the presence of an anesthetist who will monitor the patient. The practice of using local anesthetic while the patient remains conscious encourages a calm and peaceful atmosphere in the operating theatre, which in turn aids the procedure (a sophrologist may also be present at the patient’s request).
Following this procedure fully means we can guarantee that the patient will not be charged any additional fees (excluding those for the surgery itself) in the rare and unlikely event of a recurrence over time

The consultation should be lengthy and full
The operating report should be dictated at the end of the procedure and handed to the patient on leaving.
Mini-invasive varicose vein surgery
The patient is free to leave, wearing compression stockings but without bandages, on the same day as the operation, after the surgeon’s examination
